Evacuees – Stories of the Children
‘I was put on a double-decker bus and was whisked off to Ivinghoe Aston, Buckinghamshire, in the middle of England.’
‘My parents must have been distraught at sending their son away to total strangers in a place they knew nothing of, for who knows how long, but they kept up appearances for our sake and assured us that ‘you will be going somewhere safe where someone will look after you and we will come and visit you whenever we can’. We were herded on to a steam train, waved our parents a cheery good-bye, they with tears streaming down their faces, and off we went on this marvellous adventure! ‘I’ll have him’, and ‘that two there will do’, ‘that little girl with the curly hair’. The voices sounded strange, difficult to understand but they were obviously speaking English. So start some of the stories captured in this book. Stories that need to be preserved and read. When you feel the pressure and stress of modern-day living - pick up this book and read one or two of the stories of the evacuees. The charm and resilience of these evacuee children will fill your soul - Your stress will evaporate with every page. Songs of the 20th Century
Often
we hear songs and are curious to know who wrote them. This book
attempts to satisfy that curiosity with a goldmine of information.
The main section is devoted to the songs themselves-who wrote them, when and why they were written as well as the shows and films in which they have been heard. The second and third sections are devoted to biographical details of the composers and lyricists respectively. Some other songs of theirs which are deemed unsuitable for the main content are mentioned. Although it is a book of popular song, references are made to many classical composers from Bartok to Mozart and from Debussy to Stravinsky. References are also made to eminent literary figures from Bertolt Brecht to James Joyce and from Thomas Mann to Mark Twain. 'Songs' is a reference book for anyone interested in American popular song in particular, and song-writing in the 20th century. It offers a comprehensive guide to the composers and lyricists behind best-loved 'standards', as well as information on more obscure songs. The book also provides a host of fascinating anecdotes about the personalities and lives that helped forge the history of popular songs. Double Your Money
Terry Gasking has had an outstanding career. His Lectures & Seminars have been enjoyed by many thousands of Managers and Students. He began to write books on Financial Management at the end of the 1990s and even that early he could foresee and indeed forecast the massive recession to hit the Developed World! He documented the years it would occur as 2008-2010.
In 2004 he wrote a book to steer the reader away from the worst ravages of the catastrophes that he named as 4 years ahead. His forecasts were accurate even to documenting that the collapse would emanate from the way the Banks were operating and detailing why the auto industry could not possibly survive without a complete change of management thinking and methology. Time after time in over 400 businesses his forecasts proved to be amazingly accurate. In this book he turns his attention to the next 10 years with his wealth of knowledge and his insights into the financial future. He guides the reader to the steps that he believes will allow them to DOUBLE THEIR MONEY. He also describes the steps that made the Recession inevitable and why the mistakes made by the USA and UK Governments will serve only to push the worst ravages of the 2008-2010 back 5 or 10 years rather than solve the underlying problem. He includes text of his letters to the Government in which he warned of the upcoming disaster and recommended actions that would have solved it. Finally he reveals the actions that should have been taken to cure the crisis – actions that will still prove to be necessary if a solution is to be found.
